Paush Purnima is one of the most auspicious days which take place on the full moon day of Paush month as per the Hindu calendar. On this day thousands of devotees perform the ceremonious bath in the sacred Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, and Narmada rivers. This year, the Paush Purnima Vrat will be observed on January 28 and the timing for tithi begins at 1:17 AM on January 28 and ends at 12:45 AM on January 29.
Paush Purnima this year is of special significance as it falls during the famous Mahakumbh at Haridwar. By bathing in the holy waters, one can cleanse not only his/her body, but the mind and its old memories and programming as well & attain freedom from the limited experiences of ego-mind-body!
Paush Purnima falls on the day dedicated to Goddess Shakambhari, an avatar of Goddess Durga, who took the avatar to eradicate starvation/drought. Hence, she is worshipped as the Goddess of vegetation and the donation of food is considered beneficial for one physical, emotional and spiritual health.
