The Science of Life- Happy Ayurveda Day

Writer: Dinesh ShahraDinesh Shahra

Dhanvantari Trayodashi is observed two days before Diwali Puja. As the name suggests it is observed during Trayodashi Tithi (Thirteenth lunar day) of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight). The day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari, the teacher and the father of Ayurveda. according to Hindu legend.

Thousands of years before modern medicine provided scientific evidence for the mind-body connection, the sages of India developed Ayurveda, which continues to be one of the world’s most holistic and powerful healthcare systems. More than a mere system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge). It offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stay vibrant and healthy while realizing their full human potential.

The two main guiding principles of Ayurveda are 1) the mind and the body are inextricably connected, and 2) nothing has more power to heal and transform the body than our state of inner consciousness. Ayurveda is a personalized approach to health, and knowing your mind-body type allows you to make optimal choices about diet, exercise, supplements, and all other aspects of your lifestyle. The primary requisites of living an Ayurveda-inspired healthy life include lifestyle modification, wholesome food, meditation and yoga. With the Ayurvedic way of life, our mind body and spirit develop resiliency to stress, which is one of the underlying causes of almost all health issues in the modern world.

The Ayurvedic approach is about aligning with the intelligent healing power of Mother Nature rather than struggling or trying to force things to happen and exploiting Mother Nature. When you observe harmony in Mother Nature, you will see that she functions with effortless ease and spontaneously. The grass doesn’t try to grow; it just grows. Flowers don’t try or struggle to blossom; they just blossom. Ayurveda helps & inspires us to function from this state of holism and stillness where our humanity gets blossomed by our conscious connected and compassionate living.
